The different types of wallpaper and how to choose what's right for you.
There are many different types of wallpaper out there and it can get a little overwhelming trying to figure out exactly what type you need before you even start looking at what colour and pattern you want.
We want your experience to be relaxing and fun so lets take some of the guess work out of picking which type of wallpaper is right for you. At the root of it there are four basic types of wallpaper. In each of those categories there are many different patterns, textures and colours to choose from. Start by picking which of these types best fits your design needs, then it is easy to find the look you want to make it your own.
This is wallpaper that is true to its name - made only from paper with no coating at all. As you can imagine paper is pretty delicate and is easily damaged and nearly impossible to clean. Remember what it is like to spill your drink on a book, that's what you are going to have with paper wallpaper. As an added bonus it also fades quickly in the sun. Obviously this is a choice for a room that does not get a lot of direct sun and will not be exposed to moisture. Maybe the master bedroom's powder room? Keep it classy and away from the kids.
Vinyl Coated Wallpaper
This wallpaper also starts with a base of paper but then coats it with either acrylic vinyl or polyvinyl chloride to make it easy to clean. The coating also helps protect it from moisture so it is alright to use in the bathroom or kitchen, though you should avoid leaving water sitting on it for very long. This one will work with kids and all the random messes they get on the walls.
Coated Fabric Wallpaper
As you probably guessed this wallpaper does not use paper as its base, instead the coating is applied to a fabric base. Interestingly the design is not on the base fabric but on the coating instead. Because of this it does not do well in rooms that have a lot of humidity like the kitchen or bathroom. Instead it is meant to be in the living room or dining room, areas where you entertain guests and want to have a polished beautiful look.
